Cut the potatoes into cubes.

Recipe of mashed potatoes it is very popular and loved by Romanians. We have known it since childhood when our mothers or grandmothers prepared it for us. It is that satiating and gummy dish that kept us hungry all day. I admit that as a child I did not like it. My mother used to bite us quite often, and I always found reasons not to eat it. I had the same problem with the recipe stuffed peppers. I didn't like the smell and taste of boiled peppers, so I hardly ate the filling because it also took on their taste. Now I love musacau and I always make a larger amount that I freeze in individual portions.

When I feel like mashed potatoes, I just take it out of the freezer and put it directly in the oven and it's like I cooked it then. I do the same with many foods that I make in larger quantities. For this moussaka recipe we used minced beef, but you can use any kind of meat you like. Turkey meat goes very well, as does chicken or mixed meat. However, I recommend using lean meat because we will have enough fat from french fries. For a vegetarian version you can even use soy, quinoa, lentils or chickpeas. A mixture of vegetables also works very well.


Prepare the ingredients.

Peel an onion and cut it into cubes. Peel the potatoes and leave in a bowl of water.
Put a large pan on the fire and add the oil. When it has heated up, add the onion.
Cook until it starts to brown a little.

Add the minced meat and cook, taking care not to remain lumpy. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Meanwhile, slice the potatoes into thin slices.
Grease the Slow Cooker bowl with oil and place the potato slices. Being the first layer, it can be a little thicker than the rest.

Sprinkle a little salt over the potatoes and put a third of the minced meat, then a row of potatoes and another of minced meat, the last layer being potatoes.

I divided the quantities so that I have 4 rows of potatoes and 3 rows of meat, but you can also go for 3 rows of potatoes and 2 rows of meat.
In a bowl, mix the two eggs, sour cream, milk, salt and pepper and pour evenly into the bowl.

Put the lid on, connect it to a power source and set it to HIGH for 2:30 hours.
When the time has expired, the Slow Cooker automatically switches to the & # 8220Warm Keep & # 8221 function.
After 10 minutes it can be portioned and served. Serve hot.

Ingredients for mashed potatoes with chicken:

500 grams of minced chicken (breast)
5 potatoes
1 carrot
200 milliliters of broth
120 milliliters of water
100 grams of grated cheese
100 grams of cream
2 tablespoons oil

7 steps to prepare potato mash with meat:

1. Put the onion to harden in a preheated pan, next to the carrot, for 10 minutes.

2. Add the minced meat and mix until the composition is homogeneous. Stir continuously until the meat is white, then add salt, pepper, a teaspoon of paprika and a little basil. Stir again and pour the broth. After the broth has been integrated into the composition, pour the water and let this sauce boil for about an hour.

3. Peel the potatoes, cut them into slices and fry them in hot oil until golden. Remove and place on paper towels.

4. Towards the end of the sauce cooking period, when it remains only slightly moist, add the finely chopped parsley, turn off the heat and leave to cool for 15 minutes.

5. In a tray covered with baking paper put a layer of potato slices, then add a layer of minced meat. We repeat the process twice, the last row being potatoes.

6. In a bowl, mix the egg with the cream and grated cheese until it becomes a homogeneous composition. Pour over the moussaka so that the potatoes are perfectly covered.

7. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees and place the moussaka for 30-40 minutes.

For a healthier version, we can replace the french fries with boiled potatoes in the shell and cut later.

Pour over the mixture two cups of soup or water, finely chopped tomatoes in broth, season with salt and pepper and simmer until reduced.
Let the composition cool and then mix it with beaten eggs and finely chopped green parsley.

Method of preparation

We put the pieces of meat through the mincer and mix them to homogenize. I prefer to grind the meat and then I know what to put in the food.
Boil the potatoes in their skins in salted water for about 20 minutes, then let them cool, clean them and cut 3-4 mm thick slices.
Finely chop the cleaned onion, as well as 1-2 tomatoes.
In a non-stick pan, heat two teaspoons of oil and add the onion and tomato to the pan. Then add the meat and fry it until it turns white. Season with spices and add the wine and finely chopped dill.
Let it boil covered over low heat, about 20 minutes until the sauce is formed.
In a heat-resistant bowl, greased with a little butter and sprinkled with breadcrumbs, place the potato slices until well covered the bottom of the bowl, add half the amount of minced meat, another layer of potatoes, the other half of the minced meat and on top of the last layer of slices of potatoes.
Beat the 3 eggs well, add the cream and pour over the potatoes in the bowl,
Grate the cheese on top and put a few slices of cherry tomatoes.
Put the moussaka in the preheated oven at 200 degrees C, for 30 minutes, then reduce to 180 degrees C and leave until the moussaka browns nicely on top.
Remove the musacaua from the oven, portion it and serve it with a salad.

Put the oil in a pan, put the diced onion, let it fry a little, add the minced meat and a little water (the amount of water differs depending on the fat in the minced meat) and leave for about 20 minutes. Add the tomato juice, crushed garlic, parsley, vegeta and pepper. Let that composition boil until dry. In a saucepan place a layer of potatoes, then the meat mixture, another layer of potatoes, and on top grate the cheese, put the sliced ​​zucchini and carrot. Place in the oven for about 40 minutes, then add the beaten egg and sour cream on top. Leave it for about 15 minutes and it's ready. Good appetite !
